Url filter middleware
How to config it ------------------ You can treat it as a micro url filter framework. Before you using it, you should setup some options about it. The option entry shoud be like this: FILTERS = ( (r'^user/(?P<user_id>\d+)/', 'apps.users.filter.check_valid_user'), ) FILTERS should be a list or tuple with two elements tuple item. The format should be like: (url_patterns, function) And url_patterns could be a single regex expression or a list/tuple regex expressions, So you can set multi regex expression in it. And the regulation is just like url dispatch, as above example, the url pattern is: r'^user/(?P<user_id>\d+)/' So you can see, you can set parameter name `user_id`, then it'll be passed to the function behind. Function can be a string format, just like above example, and it can be also a real function object. It'll only impact request. How to write filter function ------------------------------- According above example, I define a url pattern, and what to check if the user is a valid user, and if the user is visiting his own urls, so the filter function could be: from django.contrib.auth.models import User from utils.common import render_template def check_valid_user(request, user_id): if request.user.is_anonymous(): return render_template(request, 'users/user_login.html', {'next':'%s' % request.path}) try: person = User.objects.get(pk=int(user_id)) except User.DoesNotExist: return render_template(request, 'error.html', {'message':_("User ID (%s) is not existed!") % user_id}) if person.id != request.user.id: return render_template(request, 'error.html', {'message':_('You have no right to view the page!')}) I think the code is very clear. Find all links in a value and display them separatley
This is a simple filter I use to display a list of links from a blog entry off in the sidebar ([example](http://www2.jeffcroft.com/blog/2007/feb/25/two-new-django-sites-both-source-available/)). Requires beautifulsoup. Originally by [Nathan Borror](http://playgroundblues.com), tweaked slightly by me.

Using the built-in slugify filter outside a template
This is just a very short (and mostly useless on it's own) example of how the built in slugify filter can be used in a Python script to generate slugs. It was pulled from a script I've written to pull in items from Upcoming.org's API. I post it because "sunturi" posted [Snippet #29](http://www.djangosnippets.org/snippets/29/), which duplicates the functionality of the built-in slugify filter. In the comments of that snippet, santuri (and others) seem to believe that template filters can only be used within templates. This is incorrect, and I think it's important people understand they can be used elsewhere. sunturi's snippet does remove prepositions from values before slugifying them, so if you need that, his code will work work. But if all you need is slugification, the built-in slugify filter will work fine -- in a Python script, as well as in a template.

Pygments Rendering Template Filter
Finds all ``<code></code>`` blocks in a text block and replaces it with pygments-highlighted html semantics. It tries to guess the format of the input, and it falls back to Python highlighting if it can't decide. This is useful for highlighting code snippets on a blog, for instance.

Avoid widows using a template filter
**Support good typography! Avoid widows! ** "Widows" are single words that end up on their own line, thanks to automatic line-breaks. This is an no-no in graphic design, and is especially unsightly in headers and other short bursts of text. This filter automatically replaces the space before the last word of the passed value with a non-breaking space, ensuring there is always at least two words on any given line. Usage is like so: {{ blog.entry.headline|widont }} It's a simple tag, but good typography is one of the hallmarks of a well-designed site that separates it from amateurish counterparts. Note: The idea and name "widont" is copped directly from [Shaun Inman](http://shauninman.com), who wrote a [similar feature for WordPress](http://www.shauninman.com/archive/2006/08/22/widont_wordpress_plugin).

A couple of template filters for partitioning lists
